Hindi Movie Rowdy Rathore 2012 Reviews Online
Director: Prabhu Dheva
Cast: Akshay Kumar, Sonkashi Sinha, and others.
Telecast Year: 2012
Plot: Akshay Kumar is back at his boisterous best. The first thing that hits you with ROWDY RATHORE is Akshay’s absolute conviction of the characters he has to play. Throwing caution to wind, he fights, dances and romances with gay abandon. Watching him light the screen on fire is like watching a Chris Gayle type of T-20 innings totally in control, whacking anything and anyone in his sight… an out-and-out entertainer.
ROWDY RATHORE is the remake of the smash Telugu hit VIKRAMARKUDU, which was later remade in Tamil. Right from the first scene, the action picks up moving between Mumbai and Devgarj in Bihar. There’s never a dull moment for those looking for non-stop entertainment. The first hour has you guessing as Akshay’s first screen persona explodes on screen. When the second character joins in, it’s double dhamaka.
Director Prabhu Deva brings on his signature dance steps with the powerful use of the beating of drums to pump up the volume. If at all there is any cause for worry, it is the length. But considering the masala it has been peppered with and excellent garnishing (in the form of fights and dances and a little bit of romance), the audience will not ‘mind it’. For Sanjay Leela Bhansali to partner in a film that is totally opposed to his style of film-making is indeed a bold move. A good investment because the returns are going to be huge. The dances are energetic and choreography very fluid… tapori ishtyle.
Govinda was the last actor who had the audience clapping with his dance moves and gaudy outfits. Akshay goes one step ahead. He dances to the tune of Saroj Khan, Prabhu Deva and Bosco Martis like a rubberband and carries of the ‘canary yellow’, ‘gawkish green’ and ‘bright red’ pants without sticking out like a sore thumb.
In Mumbai, Shiva (Akshay Kumar) is busy conning people with his partner 2G (Paresh Ganatra). His eyes light up at the sight of gold and he even flicks mobile phones when the victims are in deep conversation. But both are taken on at their own game when a lady, decked in gold, asks them to take care of her huge gold casket. In it they find a little girl who calls Shiva, ‘Papa’. In between there is another person who calls him Bhaiyaa, which has Shiva in a fix.
Back in Devgarh, there is pandemonium as bhai (Naseer) receives the message that IPS Vikram Singh Rathore’s (Akshay’s double role) has been spotted in Mumbai. When they dig his grave, they find his coffin full of stones. A team is sent to Mumbai to finish off Rathore.
Apart from Akshay, it is the villain Naseer who elevates himself to star status with his stupendous act. An absolute gem of a performance. Paresh Ganatra as Akshay’s side-kick does not go overboard. Sonakshi Sinha picks up from where she left in DABAANG. Totally assured of her limited role she makes as big an impact as Akshay with her confidence and performance.
ROWDY RATHORE has a storyline, unlike a few of the past Bollywood blockbusters that rode heavily on customized fight sequences. More importantly, Prabhu Deva has the pulse of the audience. This one’s going to bring the house down. Akshay gets a huge canvass to display action, romance, comedy and dance. It cannot get bigger than this for him!
